We all know about Gift Aid - or do we? It seems that there is sometimes confusion about which donations are eligible for Gift Aid, and which envelope to use, so a big 'thank you' to our Gift Aid Organiser Monica Rowden for her explanation below.
If you are a taxpayer and would like to increase your offertory donation at no personal cost, you can Gift Aid it by completing a Gift Aid form which you can collect from your Gift Aid organiser. The GA rebate from the Government is currently 25% of what you donate. It is claimed by the Diocese and received by the Parish.
In addition to the offertory donation, retiring collections which can be Gift Aided by the Diocese are as follows:-
In order to Gift Aid your donation, the parish office prints out special white envelopes for most of the above and the label is easily completed. Alternatively, the yellow envelopes, to be found at the back of the church, can be used for any of the above collections, and for offertory donations. Parishioners using numbered envelopes also have the option of using the purple envelopes in their box for this purpose.
All the other retiring collection during the year are for 'outside' charities. These charities have their own Gift Aid envelopes and these are returned to them. The yellow envelopes can be used for the diocesan charities listed above only.
