Two First Holy Communion Masses were celebrated at St. Pius on Saturday 20th May.
Twenty-seven children made their First Holy Communion at the 11 AM Mass, and a further 21 children at the 2 PM Mass. Across the whole Parish, a further 122 children made their First Holy Communion during the weekend.
The morning Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Alan and Fr. Joe McCullouch, who is an uncle to one of the children. The afternoon Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Alan and Fr. John Horn.
Fr. Alan's homilies at both Masses warned of the lure of worldly attractions, which were represented by glittering gift bags. The better option was an outwardly less attractive package which contained the promise of eternal life. Fr. Alan suggested that the package needs to be passed on from one generation to the next, even if we do not fully understand what we are passing on. There was some amusement as the special package was passed around the church in the style of 'pass the parcel'!
Fr. Alan reprised the homily theme at the Sending Forth Mass celebrated at 9.30 AM on Sunday.
