George Cranstone reminds us that although this year's Rambling Weekend is still six months away, now is the time to book accommodation for what promises to be another agreeable and convivial weekend. And perhaps there be a sighting of Winnie the Pooh and friends...
Friday 22nd June marked the beginning of a gloriously sunny walking weekend in the Cotswolds for a group of 18 from Guildford. The weekend, and perhaps the wonderful weather, had been arranged once again by George Cranstone, to whom the whole group is indebted.
This briefing from George Cranstone updates us on the plans for the annual Ramblers' Weekend in June and offers a last chance to enquire and reserve places. He certainly makes it sound attractive!
Last December George Cranstone announced his decision to cease the monthly Sunday rambles which he had begun in 1977. He cited dwindling numbers of walkers, from 50 in 1977 to only three to five, including the leader, in recent times. George also made clear his intention to continue with the annual Weekend Rambles which he also organises.
George looks back in this article at the 40 years of Sunday rambles, with some personal recollections. Perhaps it will encourage others with their own memories to contribute those too.
George Cranstone extends an invitation to join this year's 'weekend away' in and around Cirencester.
Thanks to Elizabeth Lewis for these photos of the gathering at Guildford Golf Club on Friday 23rd February. She tells us that the Men's Wednesday Walking Group hold a Ladies' Lunch each year, and that this one was enjoyed by everyone there.
