Pat Jones tells us about the Women at the Well charity, and how its work goes to the heart of Pope Francis' vision for the church.
The Christmas 10% Collection has had a great outcome and the three successful charities will soon receive cheques to enable them to further their activities.
Here are the details of the shortlisted and successful charities this year:
St Pius Christmas 10% Collection 2017
It is that time of year again when, in the context of the anticipated celebration of Christmas, we turn our minds to thinking of concrete ways for helping those less fortunate than us. As a community we aim to collect funds to distribute to charities selected by the St Pius parishioners.
All the details are provided below, plus an easy way to nominate your preferred charities.

Pat Jones writes here about her first-hand experience of the Depaul orphanage in the Ukrainian village of Zaluchya. The orphanage was one of the beneficiaries of our Christmas 10% Collection.
Pat first visited Ukraine in 2014, and then every three months for the following 18 months. She remains in contact with the Depaul organisation there.
My first visit to Ukraine was quite a marathon. I flew to Kharkiv, near the Russian border, and spent three days there seeing the work of Depaul Ukraine. First, outside the Cathedral, under a half-tent, a small team of staff and volunteers were feeding around 90 homeless people each day with hot home-made soup.
