Thank you to Frances Allen for providing this thought-provoking take on the popular carol.
Frances writes: As we enter the Christmas season and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in a manger in Bethlehem let us remember the Christians (the few that are left) and the difficult and oppressed lives they live, when we sing our Christmas carols.
This year's carol singing in Merrow Woods, starting at 6.30pm at number 19 on Monday 19th December, will be in memory of Julia Steele. Read below how this tradition began...
A shortlist was drawn up from the charity nominations collected from the congregations over recent weeks. The voting slip available in the church invited people to vote for their preferred charities in each of the 'Local', 'National' and 'International' categories.
After the poll closed on 4th December, the votes were counted and the following charities will benefit from this year's 10% Collection. This will form the retiring collection on 17th & 18th December.
