Elizabeth Lewis tells us about these rosaries and bracelets - how they are made and how to buy them to support the work of the Catholic Chaplaincy in Send Prison.
The women prisoners who go to the Rosary Group on a Friday are given the opportunity to make rosaries. They are permitted to keep one rosary for themselves. Some women will then make more and also bracelets. These are offered to people in the local parishes who donate money to cover the cost. The women pray whilst threading each bead so the resulting rosary or bracelet has both a spiritual and therapeutic effect on each woman.
The cost of beads to make the rosaries is £7, the bracelets for adults £4 and £3 for the children's.
We will be happy if you could cover the cost of the item but would be delighted if you are able to donate even more for this worthwhile cause. They will be available from the Fair Trade stall in the Narthex of St Pius on the week-end of 12th/13th May. If we run out please give your name and phone number so we can contact you when more are available.
